Day
Seven Lakes, Fann Mountains
  • Nezhigon
  • Nofin
  • Marguzor
  • Hazorchashma
Dotting the landscape of the Fann Mountains in northwest Tajikistan are the Seven Lakes, natural pools of water that have collected from the Shing River and sit as high as 2300m above sea level. Known locally as Haft Kul or Marguzor Lakes, these bodies of water are famous for their unique qualities, such as varying sizes and the differing shades of color they reflect depending on the time of day. Yet they all possess one mutual quality - calming beauty that rewards anyone who makes the journey to see them.
On the Seven Lakes Day Tour you’ll spend a full day visiting each of the seven lakes as you enjoy the fresh mountain air and beguiling panoramic views along the way. The tour includes transportation to and from Penjikent with a private driver and guide, stops at each of the seven lakes, a hike in the mountains, visit to a rural mountain village and a stopover at a historic and locally renowned mausoleum.

Tour Itinerary:

Penjikent – Seven Lakes – Penjikent

Your guide and driver will meet you at your Penjikent hotel. Drive to the Haft Kul (Seven Lakes) in the Fann Mountains (70km, 1hr to first lake).
Each lake has its own name and color. You’ll stop at each one, about a 10-15 minutes’ drive apart from one another, to take photos and learn about the lake’s history and unique characteristics:

  • Lake 1 - Nezhigon (Eyelashes)
  • Lake 2 - Soya (Shade)
  • Lake 3 - Hushyor (Vigilance)
  • Lake 4 - Nofin (Umbilicial Cord)
  • Lake 5 - Khurdak (Baby)
  • Lake 6 - Marguzor (Meadow)
  • Lake 7 - Hazorchashma (Thousand Springs).

Stretch your legs with a 30-40-minute hike between the sixth and seventh lakes, the latter of which is situated along a small river. After a picnic lunch, go for a stroll around a nearby village and take photos along the way. On the return drive to Penjikent, stop by the Muhammad Bashara Mausoleum (circa 14th century), a lovely example of Timurid architecture and possible burial site of this Sufi companion of Muhammad.
Drop-off at your Penjikent hotel. End of the Seven Lakes Day Tour.
