Turkmenistan Small Group Tour 2026-2027

During this 5-day Turkmenistan group tour, you'll explore the monuments of ancient Merv, discover the medieval mausoleums and minarets in Kunya-Urgench, and visit the unique attractions of Ashgabat. You'll also journey to the Darvaza gas crater, where you'll enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Karakum desert. This scheduled tour can easily be combined with the Scheduled Uzbekistan Group Tour or taken as part of the Silk Road Group Tour, which covers 5 Stans and the South Caucasus.

Day 1, WedAshgabat – arrival

Arrive in Ashgabat. Transfer to the hotel. Free time. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2, ThuAshgabat – Mary – Ashgabat

Meet with your group in the morning and transfer to domestic airport for the morning flight to Mary (40 min). Explore ancient city of Merv, a major center of international trade and crafts located on the Silk Road, listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Mary. Visit History museum of the region. Transfer to the airport for evening flight to Ashgabat at 19:00, arrival at 20:00. Transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Day 3, FriAshgabat – Darvaza Gas Crater

Early in the morning start the day with a sightseeing tour in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan that has recently been noted by the Guinness Book of World Records as having more white marble buildings than any other city in the world. During the city tour you will explore an archaeological site of Old Nisa included in UNESCO World Heritage list and Turkmenbashi Mosque-Mausoleum, one of the biggest mosques in Central Asia. You will visit the National Museum of History, the Monument of Neutrality, Ertugrul Gazi Mosque, newly built Independence Park and bazaar. Intense and interesting excursion also includes a stopover at the Akhalteke horse stables. In the afternoon drive to Darvaza gas crater located in the middle of Karakum desert (280km, 4h). Arrive at the crater, set up the camp. Enjoy a delicious fire-cooked meal for dinner near the burning gas crater. Overnight in tents. Note: We'll travel in 4x4 vehicles across the rugged Karakum Desert. The route is unpaved, so expect a bumpy and thrilling ride – it's the only way to get to this incredible, remote location.
At the camp, we'll enjoy an authentic stay in yurts with basic, shared outdoor washing and toilet facilities, putting us right in the heart of the desert landscape.

Day 4, SatDarvaza – Kunya-Urgench – Ashgabat

In the morning depart Gas crater and drive to Kunya-Urgench. Visit mausoleums of Turabek-Khanym, Sultan Tekesh, Sultan Il Arslan, Najmuddin-Kubra, Sultan Ali. Discover the Kutlug Timur Minaret and Kyrk Molla Hill. Transfer to the airport for evening flight to Ashgabat (ETD 2010h, ETA 2100h). Upon arrival in Ashgabat transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Day 5, SunAshgabat – departure

Check-out from the hotel till noon. Transfer to Ashgabat International airport. End of the tour.
