South India consists of four different states of
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
and the people that lived in those
areas are called South Indians. It is well known for
the Dances of the Enchantress such has
the Koodiyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali,
Yakshagana, Theyyam, Ottamthullal, Oppana,
Kerela Natanam and the Mohiniaattam.
The dances revolve around poise, patience and beauty.
South India not only known for the dances they have but they are mostly known for the food they create. The South Indians also put their efforts in the food they make, their food mostly consist of rice, whole-wheat flour, pigeon pea, Bengal gram also known as chana and green gram. Chana could be used in different forms, it may be used whole or it could be processed by a mill and sometimes it is combined with khichri similar to chick peas. Most of the Indian curries are cooked with vegetable oil.
There are various ways to make South Indian dishes and there are many different spices that are used in making these dishes. In South India their cuisine emphasis of rice as the staple grain, the liberal use of coconut and curry leaves particularly coconut oil and the ubiquity of sambar and rasam (called saaru) at meals. In South India cooking vegetables are used more due to religious purposes compared to the North Indian cooking. The dosa, idli, vada, bonda, and bajji are typical South Indian snacks.
All the snacks were made with different methods and the taste will define which of the snacks were made in different states of South India.
In different parts of South India promote different authentic tastes.
Andhra Pradesh is most popular for its, Pesarattu is a key item in Andhra cuisine, it is more similar to Dosa but the batter is made of green mung beans, the taste is unique and fantastic. It is usually thin and crispy, with onions, green chilies,
ginger pieces and coriander chopped and filled.
Kerala is known for its traditional Sadhyas,
a vegetarian meal served with boiled rice and a host of side-dishes. Payasam, a sweet milk dessert
native to Kerala, complements the Sadhya.
The Sadhya is, as per custom, served on a banana leaf.
The southern Kerala dishes are often spiced with garlic,
whereas in northern Kerala garlic is generally
avoided in all vegetarian dishes.
In the Tamil Nadu a typical meal served to guests is called "The Sappadu - Food served on a
Banana Leaf". The top half of the leaf is reserved for accessories; the lower half for the rice, and in some
communities, the rice will be served only after the guest has been seated.
Dharwad Pedha a sweet delicacy, it brings uniqueness to the state of Karnataka State.
It derives its name from the city of Dharwad in Karnataka. It is made of milk which is heated
