Magoki-Attari Mosque
Historical monuments of Bukhara

Magoki-Attari Mosque The ancient mosque of Magoki-Attari is located in the center of Bukhara near Lyabi-Hauz. In the early Middle Ages, a temple of fire-worshippers was located here behind the southern Attaron gates. The Arabs established one of the first mosques on this spot.

In 1930, archeologists excavated the southern portal of a mosque with unique ornamental bricklaying and archaic carved majolica. This portal of the 12th century is considered a masterpiece of Bukhara architecture. In the Late Middle Ages, Magoki-Attari played the role of quarter mosque.
