Description: Travel in the Ferghana Valley, Uzbekistan. Tour package consists of a combination of historical and architectural components.
If Samarkand is known as the "Pearl of the East", the Fergana Valley is famous as the "Pearl of Uzbekistan".
It's also known as the "Garden of Uzbekistan". The
Fergana Valley lies in the eastern part of Uzbekistan between the Tien Shan (Heavenly Mountains) and the Pamir Alay ranges, and is shared with neighboring nations
Tajikistan. It is the most fertile and populous area of Uzbekistan.
Ferghana, the largest town in the valley, with its Russian colonial architecture and streets shaded with palm and poplar trees, makes a good base from which to see the older and more interesting towns of
Kokand and Margilan.
Things to see in the ancient town of Margilan include the fascinating bazaar and the beautiful Khonakhah Mosque, exquisitely carved and painted in delicate shades of blue, yellow, pink and green. You can also see natural silk production by traditional methods at the
Yodgorlik silk factory.
Kokand was the capital of the notorious Kokand Khanate in the 18th and 19th cc. You can visit the palace of the cruel
Khudayar, the last Khan of Kokand, which was completed in 1873 just three years before the Russians took power. Also interesting are the
architectural complex Dahman-Shakhon and
Juma (Djami) Mosque.
