Description: In the middle of the 19th century a young bek (nobleman) by the name of Urganchi built a big house for himself. On the completion of the building, a big celebration was proclaimed and the Emir, also present, expressed his admiration for the original architecture and the intricacy of the ganch and wood work. Urganchi, not shy for an answer, swiftly let it be known, that he had all along planned to bestow the house to the Emir.
Much pleased, Ahad-khan took off his coat and draped it over Urganchi's shoulders, armor and jewelry and all, and proclaimed that Hovli Poyon would from now on be the house below with respect to the arch, the upper palace. The old house which belonged to Kushbegi Urganji, one of the most influential people of the city, is located in the depths of the narrow twisty streets of old Bukhara.
The big gates open into a cool corridor, which leads to the courtyard with ayvan and columns. The ancient interior is preserved as it was, and at the same time there are modern showers, baths, toilets, and sanitary conditions.
